Sun Safety

Skin CancerSkin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States. Prevention and early detection are the most important weapons in the battle against skin cancer.

Skin cancer is strongly associated with exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, part of the energy that comes from the sun (it also can come from artificial sources like sun lamps and tanning booths). UV radiation is made up of two types of rays, called UVA and UVB rays. UVB rays are more likely than UVA rays to cause sunburn, but UVA rays pass more deeply into the skin.
