 Disease Management

The Key to a Healthy Solution for Rising Health Care Costs; Healthy Living . . . Healthy Results

Disease Management is defined by the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA) as, "a system of coordinated health care interventions and communications for people with conditions in which patient self-care efforts are significant."

The Health Care Cost Crisis

Health care costs in the U.S. comprise more than 15% of the U.S. gross domestic product - more than clothing and energy combined. Employers and employees continue to face double-digit health care premium increases year after year with no end in sight. Surprisingly, of these rising costs, chronic health conditions account for over 75% of total health care expenditures.

The cost of these chronic conditions is not solely reflected in health care spending. Chronic health conditions are also the single largest cause of avoidable sick days in the U.S. workforce, costing employers billions of dollars annually.
